Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear sir,
I hope you are having fantastic days. I'm just writing to let you know about the noise your construction and mending work have been creating for us. I'm sorry if I would trouble you because it's a matter of concern and substantial measures will definitely halt the issue.
I am the resident of lake view apartment from the last 5 years and we are living much peaceful life here. From the last week, we are constantly facing noise problem mostly in peak hours of night. I have toddler one whose sleep is disturbing just because of that issue. Due to single parent, I have to work from home during these hours to manage my finances. Your mending work could not make it possible for me.
I am grateful if you would give me a hand to acknowledge the situation and possible solutions. Please alter the schedule to peak working hours and put some noise proof bars to maximise the output and minimise the interruption.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the noise, explaining the impact on your toddler and work, and suggesting a solution. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a neighbour. However, the development of ideas is slightly limited. For example, the explanation of why the noise is a problem could be more detailed to better convey the urgency. The suggestion to use 'noise proof bars' is a bit vague, as it is unclear what this refers to in a residential context. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized into three distinct paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Due to' and 'However' (implied), though the transitions between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, although the opening 'Dear sir' is a bit generic; using a name or a more standard formal opening would improve the professional tone. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the problem to the impact and finally to the proposed solution, which makes the letter easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'substantial measures' and 'maximize the output'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'mending work' (which sounds slightly unnatural; 'renovations' or 'repairs' would be better) and 'toddler one' (which should be 'a toddler'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score. Expanding your range of collocations would help improve the naturalness of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am the resident of lake view apartment from the last 5 years' (should be 'have been a resident... for the last 5 years') and 'Your mending work could not make it possible for me' (which is slightly awkward). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on verb tenses and preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
