Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You described the situation (noise from the upstairs apartment), explained the impact on your health and work, and suggested a specific solution (soundproofing the door). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of the task. To improve, ensure that your explanation of the problem is slightly more concise to allow for a more natural flow in the closing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'As you know' and 'As I am not sleeping well' to link ideas. However, the transition between the introduction and the body could be smoother. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the referencing (e.g., 'this issue') clearly points back to the previously mentioned problem.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message effectively. Phrases like 'viral diseases', 'relief & relaxation', and 'severity of noises' are appropriate for the context. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'downstairs of your flat' (which should be 'below your flat') and 'patients check ups' (which should be 'patient check-ups'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise collocation. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural expressions for complaining politely would enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I live in same building' (missing an article), 'now a days' (should be 'nowadays'), and 'I am unable to sit relax' (should be 'sit and relax'). Additionally, there are some punctuation errors, such as the use of an ampersand (&) which should be avoided in formal letter writing. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but more attention to articles, prepositions, and verb forms would improve the accuracy of your writing.
