Dear neighbours,

I am writing this letter to inform you regarding an incident happen last time due to high level of voice from your apartment. Actually, i moved to this city last month due to my job purposes. I have been working in engineering since last 4 years. Consequently, i have to spent a lot of time on computer screen. It’s only 6 hours to sleep night time. Last night due to high volume i was unable to sleep therefore day time i got exhausted and was unable to perform my job duties.

Could you please either change your time for listening music or either reduce the volume. Alternatively, you can use a headset if you want i have alot i can give you one of them as a present. It is my humble request to you please do something to sort this out.

Hope, you will understand me and find a solution and consider my request.

Kind regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the situation, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, maintaining a polite yet firm request. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, ensuring the reader understands the nature of the problem and your proposed resolution. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the impact of the noise to make the tone more persuasive, but overall, the task requirements are fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Consequently' and 'Alternatively', to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'Actually, i moved to this city'. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the description of your job and the noise complaint could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words would help the text feel more cohesive and professional.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message effectively. Phrases like 'humble request' and 'sort this out' are appropriate for the context. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'high level of voice' (should be 'noise') and 'since last 4 years' (should be 'for the last 4 years'). You also rely on some repetitive structures. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations related to noise complaints would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'incident happen last time' (should be 'happened'), 'i have to spent' (should be 'spend'), and 'if this noise will come daily basis' (should be 'if this noise continues on a daily basis'). Additionally, the pronoun 'I' must always be capitalised. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and tense consistency will be beneficial.
