Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the noise, explaining the impact on your studies, and suggesting a solution. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, although it leans slightly informal. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the development is somewhat repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure that the explanation of the problem is more varied and that the proposed solution is stated with greater clarity and confidence. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the reader understands the situation and the request immediately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the problem and the impact could be smoother. While the letter is coherent, the connections between sentences are sometimes simplistic. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in light of this') to create a more natural flow between your thoughts and to better connect the cause of the noise to the resulting academic difficulties.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. Phrases like 'songs voice is normally so high' and 'distract me a lot' are functional but basic. There are also some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'songs voice' instead of 'volume of music' or 'loud music'. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and a broader range of descriptive language. While the meaning is always clear, the lexical range is currently limited to common, everyday words, which prevents the writing from demonstrating the flexibility required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('my mind get distracted'), article usage ('as I am student'), and awkward phrasing ('if this will go like this'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and verb tense consistency.
