Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
My name is Ramanjot Singh, I am a resident of the apartment 1207, right below of your apartment. I regret to inform you that it has been two weeks that my morning schedule is disturbed due to the noises which comes from your premises.
Since the day you moved in, I have been told by the landord that you will be taking classes of french for your late night batch from 7 P:M to 11:00 P:M. However, I am completely fine with the tutoring but at the same time it has been an issue of sound that intervene in to my apartment and it is a big cause of my sleep deprivation.
This has been a severe issue, as I am an early bird and have to wake up around 6:00 A:M in the morning. Due to the noises, I am having proper sleep and feel lousy during whole day which leads to lack of concertration and attention.
I suggest to install the sound absorb sheets at the door of your entrance which helps to minimise the sound of the speaker.
I hope you will understand my situtation and will work on the cure.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points: describing the situation, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'Dear Sir' is slightly generic given you are writing to a neighbour. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the explanation of your sleep deprivation and the specific impact on your daily routine. To reach a higher band, ensure that the tone remains consistently polite and professional throughout, as some phrasing like 'I am completely fine with the tutoring' could be slightly more diplomatic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'Due to', to link your ideas. To improve, try to vary your transition words further and ensure that referencing is precise. For example, in the second paragraph, the transition between the landlord's information and your personal experience is clear, but the flow could be smoother with more sophisticated linking phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'sleep deprivation' and 'morning schedule is disturbed' are effective. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'intervene in to my apartment' (should be 'disturb' or 'penetrate') and 'install the sound absorb sheets' (should be 'sound-absorbing sheets'). Additionally, 'lousy' is slightly informal for this context. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'it has been two weeks that my morning schedule is disturbed' (should be 'it has been two weeks since my schedule was disturbed') and 'noises which comes' (subject-verb agreement error: 'noises which come'). There are also minor punctuation and preposition errors, such as '7 P:M' and 'below of your apartment'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score.
