Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Patel,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with uncontrolled noise everyday.
Since last week, I was being disturbed by deafening sound coming from your unit every night. I have already tried to have a conversation regarding this issue but when I knocked your door, nobody responded.
After coming from exhausting day at job, my body require satisfactory sleep which is not happening, apparently due to extreme loudness. Therefore, I am not able to focus on the job and feeling sleepy all day long. Moreover, I have a family consist of a teenager. He is preparing for an exam but he cannot study and focus at home during night.
In order to resolve this problem, I would request you to lower the sound or use quality headphones or else I need to report this issue to property manager which will causes significant penalty to you as many tenants will support this.
Kind regards,
Dhruvish Panchal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: the situation is described, the impact is explained, and a solution is proposed. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a neighbour, although the threat of reporting to the property manager is quite direct. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, fulfilling the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, the development of the impact could be slightly more nuanced, but overall, the response is well-focused and addresses the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problem from the proposed solution. Cohesive devices such as 'Since', 'Therefore', and 'Moreover' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is clear, and the reader can easily follow the writer's argument from the initial complaint to the final request for action.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is sufficient for the task, allowing for clear communication. There are some good collocations like 'deafening sound' and 'satisfactory sleep'. However, there are minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'uncontrolled noise' (which sounds slightly unnatural) and 'at job' (should be 'at work'). The range is adequate for a General Training task, but more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions would be needed to reach a higher band. The vocabulary is generally precise enough to convey the intended meaning without difficulty.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I was being disturbed' (should be 'I have been disturbed'), 'my body require' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'a family consist of' (should be 'consists of'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the overall meaning of the letter. The punctuation is generally correct, and the sentence structure is varied enough to maintain the flow of the text.
