Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points: describing the noise, explaining the impact on your work, and suggesting a solution. However, the tone is somewhat inconsistent for a letter to a neighbour. While you clearly explain the situation, the development of ideas is a bit repetitive, particularly regarding your work schedule. To reach a higher band, ensure that your tone remains consistently polite and formal, as the closing 'Yours lovingly' is inappropriate for a neighbourly dispute. The content is relevant, but the structure of the argument could be more refined to ensure a smoother flow of information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited. Many sentences are joined by 'and' or lack punctuation, leading to long, run-on sentences that make the text feel disjointed. For example, the second paragraph is essentially one long sentence without proper pauses. To improve, you should use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'however') and ensure that each sentence is clearly demarcated with full stops to improve the logical flow of your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'noise', 'stuff', and 'do'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'one of your neighbour from the downstairs' instead of 'one of your neighbours from downstairs'. While your meaning is generally clear, the vocabulary does not demonstrate the flexibility or range required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more specific descriptive language related to the situation, such as 'disturbing', 'incessant', or 'compromise'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, particularly regarding sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. You often use run-on sentences, such as 'I am writing this letter to you because there has been noise that constantly came from your apartment the noise like Mixer...'. Additionally, there are errors with articles and pluralisation (e.g., 'one of your neighbour'). While the meaning is understandable, the lack of control over complex structures and the high frequency of basic errors prevent a higher score. Focus on using shorter, grammatically correct sentences before attempting more complex structures.
