Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear john,
I am writing to complain about the noise which come from last 10 days from your apartment. I have experienced several problems and would like to request you to take care of .
As i had a fixed scheduled any has many tasks to complete on proper time . But the noise coming from your room rellay very annoying. Due to which i faced several difficulties . I am not able to sleep properly because of loud noise and because of this i am not able to concentrate on my work properly . Every day i got late for my work because its obvious if i got irregular sleep it disturbs my sleeping cycle as well.
I would suggest to lower the volume so that you can also enjoy and the loud noise couldnot bother others also . Otherwise if were listening to music i must say u should use earpods for that .
I hope you will look after this issue and understand my comcerns . I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Mandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the noise, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, although it leans slightly towards being accusatory. The ideas are relevant, though the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the impact on your sleep and work. To improve, ensure that the explanation of the problem is more clearly linked to the specific nature of the noise, and provide a more structured approach to the solution. Overall, the task requirements are met, but the development of ideas could be more sophisticated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, 'Due to which i faced several difficulties' is grammatically awkward and does not connect well to the previous sentence. There is also a lack of variety in transition words. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'as a result') and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'this issue') is used more precisely to connect ideas between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message, but it is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'experienced several problems' and 'not able to concentrate' are functional but lack precision. There are also some errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'comcerns' and 'earpods' (headphones is more standard). To improve, try to incorporate more specific vocabulary related to noise complaints, such as 'persistent disturbance', 'disruptive', or 'reasonable hours'. Expanding your range of collocations will help you express your frustration more naturally and effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement ('noise which come'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structure ('As i had a fixed scheduled any has many tasks'). The use of punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces before commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are frequent enough to cause some distraction. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofread carefully for common errors like missing 's' on third-person singular verbs and incorrect verb tenses.
