Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter regarding about the noise coming from your apartment.
I want to inform you that most of the time, I am working from home, and I had to attend multiple online meetings with the clients. From last few days, I am not able to focus at my work at all, due to the sound coming from your apartment. Yesterday, my colleague told me to mute the microphone as they were also hearing the sound in the meeting.
I recommend your family members, if they can lower the volume of sound system during the daytime. Also if they can open the windows of the rooms on opposite side, that will also helps to reduce the noise inside the buliding.
I beleive that you will definately take suitable action to reduce the noise.
Yours sincerely,
Sagar Malhi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: describing the noise, explaining the impact on your work, and suggesting a solution. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which limits the development of your ideas. While the tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, the brevity prevents a more thorough exploration of the situation. To improve, ensure you expand on your points sufficiently to meet the length requirement, as this is a key component of the task instructions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, body, and conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'also' and 'if', which help the flow of information. However, the transitions between sentences are sometimes a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is easy to follow, which provides a clear progression of your message.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'regarding', 'focus', and 'suitable action'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'regarding about' (which is redundant) and 'sound system' (which could be more specific). You attempt to use appropriate language for a formal letter, but the vocabulary remains somewhat basic. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items to demonstrate a broader range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'From last few days' (should be 'For the last few days'), 'focus at my work' (should be 'focus on my work'), and 'that will also helps' (should be 'that will also help'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall accuracy. Increasing your control over verb tenses and prepositions will help improve your score in this criterion.
