Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: the situation is described, the impact on the writer is explained, and a solution is proposed. However, the tone is problematic. The language used, such as 'I am very disappointed from your son' and 'I can also take action against your son', is overly aggressive and confrontational for a formal letter to a neighbour. This affects the appropriateness of the response. While the ideas are relevant, the lack of a polite, diplomatic tone prevents the letter from being fully effective in achieving its communicative purpose.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'Although, DJ party is not legal things' is used incorrectly as a transition, and the connection between sentences is sometimes abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the transition between the grandmother's health issues and the writer's exam schedule. While the overall message is understandable, the flow between ideas lacks the sophistication required for a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and natural collocation. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'playing DJ music with very loud voice' instead of 'playing loud music' and 'having ear problem' instead of 'hearing difficulties'. The word choice is often repetitive, and the student struggles with word forms, such as 'behave' used as a noun instead of 'behaviour'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range is limited, and the errors in word choice occasionally draw attention to themselves.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('he is start', 'she is become'), article usage ('the' is often missing or misused), and preposition errors ('disappointed from'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors and issues with tense consistency. While these errors do not completely prevent communication, they are frequent enough to impede the flow of the text and indicate a lack of control over complex grammatical structures.
