Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs. Patel,
I hope you are doing well. My name is Ridhi, I am your neighbor from downstair apartment. From last few days I have been experiencing some disturbing noises from your residence. I know entertainment is very important in life and kids' wants to make themselves busy in doing something, so they play television and play together, and I also heard some late-night movie sounds.
I am writing this letter because I am a student studying medical in which I have to go through a lot of study material, and few medicine terms as well. I would kindly request for your cooperation with me so that I can sincerely have a concentration on my studies, because getting good grades is highly crucial for me and for my upcoming life.
I would really appreciate your understanding and coordination. Thank you for taking time to read the letter till end.
Your faithfully,
Ridhi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the noise, explaining why it is a problem, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, maintaining a polite and respectful stance throughout. However, the suggestion for a solution is somewhat vague; you ask for 'cooperation' but do not propose a specific action, such as keeping noise down after a certain hour. To improve, ensure your proposed solution is concrete and actionable to better resolve the conflict described.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the situation from the explanation and the request. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the description of the noise and the explanation of your studies could be smoother. Using more varied linking words or phrases would help the ideas flow more naturally between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'disturbing noises' and 'sincerely have a concentration'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'studying medical' should be 'studying medicine', and 'coordination' is not the most natural fit for asking a neighbour to be quiet; 'consideration' would be more precise. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors that persist. Examples include 'From last few days' (should be 'For the last few days'), 'kids' wants' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'I also heard' (tense inconsistency). Additionally, 'Your faithfully' is incorrect; it should be 'Yours faithfully'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
