Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Neighbour,
I am writing this letter to address the problem that I am currently facing from past few days.
So the situation is related to my work. Actually I work from home and mainly I take calls regularly, But from past few days I hear loud music playing around the time of my work.
While attending calls, I have to concentrate on the client's concern and answer them. while on meeting when I hear loud music I am unable to concentrate and perform in my job. Just yesterday a client give me bad feedback on my performance due to background disturbance.
To give you my kind suggestion, could you lower the volume or wear a headset while listening to music. I would really appreciate if you have any others solutions as well.
Thank you so much for understanding.
Your friendly neighbour,
Surya Dulawat

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: describing the situation, explaining the problem, and suggesting a solution. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which impacts the overall task achievement. The ideas are relevant but could be more fully developed to meet the length requirement and provide a more professional tone. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, though it could be slightly more polite given the sensitive nature of the request.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the narrative. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the transition between the situation and the impact is a bit abrupt. Using more varied linking words or phrases (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'as a result') would improve the flow and logical progression of the ideas. The paragraphing is present but could be more effectively used to separate the distinct points of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. Phrases like 'problem that I am currently facing' and 'loud music playing' are functional but basic. There are some minor collocation issues, such as 'give me bad feedback' (should be 'gave me negative feedback'). To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to professional environments and conflict resolution, such as 'distraction', 'detrimental', or 'mutually agreeable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'from past few days' (should be 'for the past few days') and 'while on meeting' (should be 'while in a meeting'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the comma splice in 'I take calls regularly, But from past few days'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall accuracy of the writing.
