Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the noise, explaining the impact on your sleep, and suggesting a solution. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which limits the development of your ideas. To improve, you should expand on the impact of the noise—perhaps mentioning how it affects your work performance or health—and provide more detail in your proposed solution. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, though it could be more formal and polite to ensure a positive outcome.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter is short and lacks clear paragraphing, which makes the structure feel disjointed. While there is a logical progression from the problem to the solution, the use of cohesive devices is very limited. You rely on simple sentence structures and basic connectors like 'so' and 'because'. To achieve a higher band, you should use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in addition') to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure the letter is clearly divided into an introduction, body, and conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'slow down your voice of speakers' are unnatural; a more precise term would be 'lower the volume'. You also struggle with word choice, such as 'am usually wake up' instead of 'I usually wake up'. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to noise complaints and daily routines. Using more sophisticated vocabulary will help you express your needs more clearly and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('am your neighbour'), incorrect verb forms ('am usually wake up'), and punctuation issues. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of auxiliary verbs. Additionally, ensure that you use full sentences rather than fragmented phrases to improve the overall clarity and grammatical accuracy of your writing.
