Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Bains,
I hope you are doing great. I am writing this letter to inform you that from last two week there is frequent loud noice coming from you apartment during nights.
Yesterday I was working and I heard loud music from your house. It bothered me lot due to which i was distracted from my work. It was not only about yesterday, I am facing this issue from last two weeks. I have my old parents at home they face problem while sleeping during nights due to noise.
I just want you to look after the problem. I would like to suggest that you can slow down the volume of your music or you can use headphones so that it does not bother other people living around the area.
I hope you will understand my problem and will look after the suggestion I gave you. Hoping for a prompt action.
Yours Faithfully,
Sehajgeet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the noise, explaining the impact on your work and your parents, and suggesting a solution. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, although it leans slightly toward being overly direct. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, fulfilling the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the impact of the noise to provide more depth, but you have successfully covered all parts of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Yesterday', 'It was not only about', and 'I hope'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly. The paragraphing is sufficient, but ensure that the transition between the problem description and the proposed solution is smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'frequent', 'distracted', and 'prompt action'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'look after the problem' (which should be 'look into' or 'address') and 'look after the suggestion' (which should be 'consider'). Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'from last two week' (should be 'for the last two weeks'), 'noice' (spelling error), 'bothered me lot' (missing article), and 'i' (should be capitalized). Additionally, there are issues with verb tenses and prepositions. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and basic article usage will significantly improve your writing.
