Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Ram,
I am writing this letter to discuss about the issue , i am facing because of noise from your apartment. I have a work from home job which needs silence and concentrated environment but i always getting loud volume songs from your place .
Whenever i started working , it makes me distracted and frustrated during my meetings and presentations. I am not able to perform well my duties just because of this disturbance which is not my fault at all. Apart from this, i got warning from my manager as well about this environment and company told me to manage these things otherwise it would put impact on my job.
I will be very happy if you take it serious and stop listening music in high volume and make it possible to listen as per your own needs. Moreover these noises also disturb everybody in our society.
I hope you understand my concern and try to resolve it as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully,
Mann

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: describing the noise, explaining the impact on your work, and suggesting a solution. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, though it leans slightly towards being accusatory. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the proposed solution—perhaps suggesting specific 'quiet hours'—to make the request more constructive and collaborative. Overall, the task is fulfilled effectively, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the problem to the impact and finally to the solution. Paragraphing is used, though the structure is a bit fragmented. You use some cohesive devices like 'Apart from this' and 'Moreover,' but the flow between sentences can feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though the transition between the impact on your job and the request for change could be smoother. Improving the use of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly would help elevate this score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'concentrated environment,' 'distracted,' and 'frustrated.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'take it serious' (should be 'take it seriously') and 'put impact on my job' (should be 'have an impact on my job'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. Focusing on collocations and ensuring correct word forms will help improve your lexical range and accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Common issues include the misuse of articles (e.g., 'a work from home job'), subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'i always getting'), and capitalization errors (e.g., 'i' instead of 'I'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation slips, such as unnecessary spaces before commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with pronouns and verb tenses, is essential.
