Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Ian,
I am writing to express my discomfort with your high volume music.
I and my husband, we both are working full-time job that usually commence at the early morning. To wake-up on time, we have to asleep early. While your family daily play the music at high volume around 9 pm which triggers the disturbances for my family.
As we have a hectic jobs and I have a baby who also need a peace to get sleep. However, your activities create a problem for her to take a proper rest.
I understand, music works as a stress-buster. Thus, instead of preventing to play songs, You can lower the volume and we can manage till 10pm to awake. That solution can be beneficial for both of us.
I hope you understhat recommendation will work for you and I look forward for your reply.
Regards,
Sabeer

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: describing the noise, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which impacts the overall task completion. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, though the development of ideas is somewhat brief. To improve, you should expand on the specific nature of the noise or the impact on your daily routine to ensure you comfortably meet the length requirement and provide a more fully developed response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear opening and closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the situation, the impact, and the proposed solution. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. For example, the transition 'However' is used correctly, but other links between sentences are basic. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas flows more naturally between sentences rather than feeling like a list of points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'hectic jobs', 'stress-buster', and 'disturbances'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'triggers the disturbances' and 'preventing to play songs'. These minor inaccuracies do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural collocations and idiomatic expressions would help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'I and my husband, we both are working', 'need a peace to get sleep', and 'understhat'. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for small typos that can distract the reader.
