Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs. Tripathi,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing this letter in concern of the noise that bothers to me. As I am a student right now, I am doing my Masters in Business and I have assignments to complete. Also, I am working part-time at a restaurant. I have to follow a routine to get to college and work. Sometimes I come late from work but still I can hear loud TV sound and music. So, I need an environment where I can study and rest so that I can perform well and give my best at what I am doing. I understand that your children are in their vacation and they are having a fun time but it would be good if they do not play till late nights.
I hope you will understand my situation and try to get through the solution.
Warm regards,
Vrunda Solanki

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the noise, explaining why it is a problem, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, maintaining a polite yet firm stance. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention your studies and work, the explanation of the noise's impact could be more detailed to fully convey the urgency of the situation. The solution offered is clear, but could be more specific to ensure a better outcome. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction to the problem and finally the proposed solution. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Also' and 'So' to link your ideas. However, the paragraphing is underdeveloped; the entire body of the letter is contained within a single paragraph. To improve, you should separate the description of the problem and the proposed solution into distinct paragraphs. This would enhance the visual and logical structure of your writing, making it easier for the reader to follow your points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant phrases like 'perform well' and 'get to college'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'in concern of' instead of 'concerning' or 'regarding', and 'get through the solution' which is not a standard collocation. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to the context of noise complaints, such as 'disruptive', 'excessive', or 'considerate'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips. For example, 'bothers to me' is incorrect; it should be 'bothers me'. Additionally, 'they are having a fun time' is slightly unnatural; 'they are enjoying themselves' would be better. You also have some minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. Despite these errors, they do not impede communication. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures and refining your prepositions will help improve your score.
