Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Robin
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to complain about noises that comes from your home.
Since last two weeks, I have noticed that there is a loud voice of speakers coming from your home at around 8.00 pm to 9.00 pm. As per rules , we are not allowing to play loud speakers during this time. Moreover, during midnight, From 12.30 am to 2.00 am there is a constant voice of something falling down on the floor. Usually , we have to wake up early in the morning so it is disturbing our sleeping schedule. We can not focus on our work due to insuficient sleeping.
So I request you to stop playing speakers loudly during evening and making noise of falling down things in midnight and It will really help us to focus on our daily work if we get enough sleep.
Thank you for your time and try to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
Best Regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: describing the noise, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint to a neighbour. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, although the development of the 'solution' could be slightly more detailed to fully meet the Band 7 descriptor for 'extended and supported' ideas. However, the purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the reader is left in no doubt about the situation and the desired outcome.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover' and 'So', though the usage is sometimes a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, although the transition between the description of the noise and the impact could be smoother. Overall, the structure is coherent and the paragraphing is used appropriately to manage the flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'loud voice of speakers' (instead of 'loud music' or 'loud volume') and 'making noise of falling down things' (instead of 'thumping noises' or 'clattering'). While the range is sufficient to convey the message, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band. Spelling is generally accurate, but the word choices are somewhat limited and occasionally imprecise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'noises that comes' (subject-verb agreement), 'Since last two weeks' (incorrect preposition/tense usage), and 'we are not allowing' (passive voice error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement and capitalization after periods. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. A greater focus on subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage would improve the accuracy significantly.
