Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Rahul,
How are you ? I hope you are doing well .
I'm writing to complain about the noises coming from your apartment at night everyday.
The reason I am writing to you specifically is because I have my exams in two weeks and I'm preparing for it.
As you know , I work in days so I don't have time to focus on my study in a day time . So, I usually study at night . Your brother plays music in a high volume every night so it bothered me a lot .
I would like to appreciate if you could talk with your brother about this situation and if he wants to do that just listen in less volume . Also, it just for two weeks .
I hope you will understand that.
Thankyou very much for your time . I look forward to your response.
Take care,
Sonu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: describing the noise, explaining the impact on your studies, and suggesting a solution. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, although it leans slightly towards being blunt. The ideas are relevant, but they could be developed further to sound more natural and persuasive. For instance, the explanation of why you study at night is clear, but the request for a solution could be phrased more politely to ensure a positive outcome. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, meeting the requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical sections, starting with a greeting, moving through the problem and its impact, and concluding with a request and sign-off. However, the paragraphing is somewhat fragmented, with many very short sentences that disrupt the flow. While cohesive devices like 'So' and 'Also' are used, they are quite basic and repetitive. To improve, you should use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more smoothly, such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in light of this'.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message, but it is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'noises coming from your apartment' and 'plays music in a high volume' are functional but lack precision. There are also some minor collocation errors, such as 'work in days' instead of 'work during the day' and 'do that just listen in less volume' which is awkward. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more natural collocations and precise vocabulary related to noise disturbances and academic pressure.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'I work in days' should be 'I work during the day', and 'I would like to appreciate if you could' is grammatically incorrect; 'I would appreciate it if you could' would be the standard form. Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as spaces before question marks and commas. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing.
