Dear Mr Smith ,

I am writing you regarding the late night noises coming from your apartment . I am Darpanbeer Kaur from the apartment number 417 , just below your apartment floor 517 . Late night noises from your apartment keeps me awake all the night . Last night , you had a party at your apartment and the music was really loud moreover, it continues till 4 am in the morning.

As a result, I am unable to get a proper sleep. I have to leave early for my work that is why it is really important for me to sleep well but the noises from your apartment after 10pm do not let me. Also, I am really bad with sleep . If I wake up once in the middle of sleep it is really difficult for me to sleep again.

I hope you understand my situation . I request you to keep the noise and music down after 10pm . I really appreciate your understanding .

Yours faithfully,

Darpanbeer kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: describing the situation, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a neighbour, and the purpose is clear from the outset. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, providing sufficient detail about the noise, the specific impact on your work-life balance, and a clear request for change. The response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, moving from the introduction of the problem to the specific consequences and finally the proposed solution. Cohesive devices such as 'As a result', 'moreover', and 'also' are used to link sentences, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format, and the overall structure supports the reader's understanding of the situation.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication of the situation. You use some functional phrases like 'unable to get a proper sleep' and 'appreciate your understanding'. However, the range is somewhat limited and relies on fairly basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise collocations or varied expressions, such as 'excessive noise' instead of 'noises' or 'disrupting my sleep' instead of 'do not let me'. There are no significant spelling errors that impede meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'noises... keeps me' (subject-verb agreement), 'I am really bad with sleep' (unnatural phrasing), and '4 am in the morning' (redundancy). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some spacing issues before commas. The errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more consistent control over basic grammatical rules and sentence construction to achieve a higher score.
