Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You successfully covered all parts of the prompt. You described the situation by mentioning the noise coming from the kids' gaming room upstairs. You explained why it is a problem by stating that you work from home, take online classes, and cannot concentrate, which even affects your academic scores and health due to stress. Finally, you suggested a practical solution, which is putting cotton sheets or acoustic material on the walls. The tone is mostly appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, although it leans slightly too direct in places. However, all bullet points are addressed with relevant ideas, which corresponds to a solid Band 6.5 or 6.0 performance. Because your ideas are sufficiently clear and relevant, your Task Achievement score is Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement, and you divided your thoughts into logical paragraphs separating the description, problems, and solution. However, coherence is sometimes hindered by faulty linking and mechanical phrasing. For instance, you use repetitive connectors like 'and' frequently, and sentences such as 'I also see on my dining room wall, there is so many cracks on it' disrupt the flow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in 'that types of' at the end of your solution paragraph. Paragraphing is present and helps the reader follow the structure of a formal complaint letter, but cohesive devices are underused or inaccurate. This places your Coherence and Cohesion performance securely within the Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate your message, mentioning concepts like 'apartment,' 'online classes,' and 'dining room wall.' However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'by loudness' instead of 'the noise' and 'I am also heart problem' instead of 'I also have a heart condition.' You also misspelled 'mrs franklin' and struggled with phrasing like 'sound is in control.' These errors sometimes cause difficulty for the reader, and your vocabulary range remains somewhat limited and repetitive. Despite these limitations, the meaning is generally retrievable, which fits the criteria for Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'whenever I am talking to my teacher for asking the questions my voice is not hear my teacher because for loudness.' However, your writing contains frequent grammatical errors, incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'i writing that letter'), missing articles (e.g., 'put a speaker'), and passive voice errors ('voice is not hear'). Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent, as seen in lowercase 'i'. While these errors do not completely obscure your meaning, they occur frequently and cause strain for the reader. This level of control aligns best with the Band 5.0 descriptors for Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
