Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear jiya,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to complain about the noise which is disturbed me alot.
Actually, I am living near your house at downstairs and i am very distracted from your noise of spekers when you celebrate your parties. In the next month i have an exams ,so i am not able to concentrate on my exams.
My family have not enough money to pay my exam fees again because due to this i don't have more money so my mental stress increase as well as not sleep on time.
I have a solution for this problem of loud music in the night, as you can do your party in the day time because that time i am in the college. So, you can enjoy your party and i am felling good and doing nice study which helps me to increase my grade score
I hope you will understand my situation and cooperate with me.
Yours lovingly,
luna

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. The situation is described as being bothered by noise from the upstairs neighbour, specifically speaker noise during parties. The problem is explained clearly in terms of upcoming exams and the negative impact on sleep and mental stress. Finally, a practical solution is suggested: shifting parties to daytime hours when the writer is at college. The tone is generally appropriate for an informal letter to a neighbour, although the relationship feels slightly transactional. Ideas are relevant and developed adequately to satisfy the requirements, with no omissions. Therefore, the task achievement is assessed at band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression from introduction to problem, impact, and solution. Paragraphing is used, though the body paragraphs are somewhat clumped together and could be better separated for visual clarity. Cohesive devices such as 'Actually', 'In the next month', and 'I have a solution for this problem' are used to guide the reader, although some referencing is a bit mechanical or repetitive. Signposting is adequate for a short letter of this type, ensuring the reader easily follows the narrative flow. Thus, a band score of 6.0 is appropriate.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the intended message. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive, with basic phrasing like 'do not have more money' and 'felling good'. There are notable lexical and spelling errors that detract from precision, such as 'disturbed' instead of 'disturbing', 'spekers' instead of 'speakers', and 'study' used where 'studying' or 'academic work' would be more natural. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to a band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and subordinate clauses ('so I am not able to concentrate', 'which helps me to increase'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in verb tense, agreement, and prepositional usage, including 'I am living near your house at downstairs', 'a exams', 'My family have not enough money', and 'that time i am in the college'. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent, particularly with lowercase 'i'. Because these frequent errors cause occasional difficulty and strain the reader, this criterion warrants a band 5.0.
