• suggest a solution. You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear _________,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Neighbour,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to let you know about the noise coming from your apartment upstairs. Recently, I have been hearing loud footsteps, furniture being moved, and music late at night, especially after 10 p.m.
This has become a problem for me because I work early in the morning and need enough sleep to concentrate during the day. However, the noise often wakes me up or makes it difficult for me to fall asleep. It is also affecting my ability to relax in the evenings after work.
I understand that apartment buildings can be noisey sometimes, and I respect your lifestyle. However, I would be grateful if you could try to reduce the noise during late hours. For example, you could lower the volume of the music, avoid moving heavy furniture at night, or place rugs on the floor to reduce footsteps.
I would really appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my request.
Youre faithfully,
raja

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response fully and effectively addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully describe the situation ('noise coming from your apartment upstairs', 'loud footsteps, furniture being moved, and music late at night'), clearly explain why it is a problem ('work early in the morning and need enough sleep', 'affecting my ability to relax'), and suggest practical, polite solutions ('lower the volume of the music, avoid moving heavy furniture at night, or place rugs on the floor'). The tone is entirely appropriate for a formal or semi-formal letter to a neighbour. All parts of the task are well developed, resulting in a strong band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter exhibits clear logical organisation and natural progression. It opens with an appropriate salutation and statement of purpose, moves smoothly into describing the problem and its impact, and concludes with polite requests and a standard sign-off. Paragraphing is used logically and effectively to separate distinct ideas, such as the description of the noise versus the impact on your daily life. Cohesive devices are handled naturally without sounding mechanical, for example using transitional phrases like 'This has become a problem for me', 'However', and 'For example'.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is natural and adequate for the task, successfully communicating all intended meanings. You employ a good range of functional vocabulary such as 'concentrate during the day', 'respect your lifestyle', and 'cooperation'. There is a minor spelling error ('noisey' instead of 'noisy'), but this does not impede communication. While the vocabulary is appropriate and covers the topic well, it lacks the broader flexibility or more sophisticated uncommon lexical items required to push into the higher band levels. Overall, the range is sufficient and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
Your writing demonstrates a good control of grammar and punctuation, with a healthy mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Examples of complex structures include 'I am writing to let you know about the noise coming from your apartment upstairs' and 'I would be grateful if you could try to reduce the noise during late hours.' The majority of sentences are error-free. There is a minor sign-off error at the end where 'Youre faithfully' contains a missing apostrophe and uses 'faithfully' rather than 'sincerely' (since the letter is addressed to 'Dear Neighbour' rather than a named person), but these minor mechanical slips do not impede overall communication.
