Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. First, the situation is clearly described in the opening and middle sections, identifying the upstairs neighbour and the ongoing noise issue. Second, the impact of the problem is explained well, noting that the candidate is a student in their final semester taking a supply chain management course and that exams are near, meaning the noise disrupts studying and concentration. Third, a constructive solution is suggested, proposing that the neighbour watch television at a lower volume and engage their children in quieter activities. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, maintaining politeness while addressing the grievance. Although some ideas could be expanded further, all parts of the task are addressed adequately, justifying a solid band score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose established right from the beginning. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the description of the problem, the suggested solution, and the sign-off. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Additionally', and 'such as' are employed to link ideas together, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, with pronouns like 'it' and 'they' used to maintain continuity, though minor lapses occur in sentence connectivity. Overall, the flow is logical and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a mid-level score in this category.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the intended message to the neighbour. The candidate attempts some less common expressions such as 'supply chain management course' and 'concentrate on my study', but also relies on basic and repetitive phrasing. There are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'problem about I am bothering by' instead of 'problem regarding the disturbance caused by', and 'watching slow volume Tv' instead of 'turning down the volume of the television'. Spelling is generally accurate, but vocabulary limitations and awkward phrasing prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'During night time, when i go to study I usually listening lots of noise...' and 'I respect your feelings because you living with your family...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors such as 'I am bothering by', 'you living', and missing auxiliary verbs or incorrect verb forms like 'I usually listening'. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent, with lower-case 'i' used repeatedly. While these errors do not completely impede communication because the context remains clear, they restrict the response to a band 5.0.
