Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student successfully covers all bullet points required by the task prompt. The letter begins by describing the situation, noting that 'loud music noise coming from your apartment' disturbs the writer's sleep. It explains why this is a problem by stating that the author works part-time in the evening, studies a master's degree, and lives with family who are also bothered. Furthermore, constructive solutions are suggested, such as playing music earlier in the day and taking the children to the park. The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal letter to a neighbour. All parts of the task are addressed adequately, placing this within the Band 6.0 territory due to some under-development of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into four distinct paragraphs with an appropriate opening and closing. Basic cohesive devices are used, such as 'Although', 'As I said', 'In spite of this', and 'Firstly'. However, some of these cohesive links are used incorrectly or mechanically, such as 'Although, With that, i am studying' and 'due to your frequently noise bothered me'. Paragraphing is present and helps structure the letter from the introduction of the problem to explanations and solutions, but referencing is occasionally unclear. Overall, the arrangement is coherent enough to follow easily, fulfilling the requirements for a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting phrases like 'part time', 'masters of education', and 'activities in the park'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and word formation, such as 'informs' instead of 'inform', 'frequently noise' instead of 'frequent noise', and 'clutters of garden'. Words are also occasionally misused, such as 'place' instead of 'space'. Spelling mistakes like 'disturbes' and 'childrens' (as a plural) occur. Because these errors do not impede overall communication and the vocabulary is minimally sufficient, a Band 5.5 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses with 'although', 'as', and 'while'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text. Examples of errors include 'I am writing this letter to informs you', 'I already working or studied daily', and 'your childrens make'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with comma splices and incorrect capitalization. While simple sentences are generally understandable, attempts at complex structures frequently result in errors that require the reader to re-read parts of the sentence. This aligns well with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
