Dear Neighbour,
I hope everything is going well with you. I am writing this letter to inform you about ongoing problem with noise from your upstairs apartment. Over past few weeks, I heard loud footstep , moving furniture and music sound till late night.
Unfortunately, it's difficult for me to sleep at night because i have to wake up early in the morning for my job. Due to frequent noise, It makes difficult for me to get enough sleep during night. because of it I feel tired for whole day and it effect my professional life.
I completely understand some noise are unavoidable in apartment but I would appreciate if you play music in lower voice after 10 o'clock. and avoid moving furniture or doing any noisily activity at night.
I hope you understand my problem and I am sure we will find solution which may works for both of us.
your sincerely,
Neighbour

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The student successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task instructions. The situation is clearly described in the opening sentences by mentioning 'ongoing problem with noise from your upstairs apartment' and specifying 'loud footstep , moving furniture and music sound till late night.' The explanation of why it is a problem is also well-developed, as the student explains the impact on their sleep schedule and professional life ('because i have to wake up early in the morning for my job... I feel tired for whole day'). Finally, a practical solution is suggested ('play music in lower voice after 10 o'clock'). The tone is appropriately polite for a letter to a neighbour. All parts of the prompt are fully addressed, earning a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. It uses a conventional letter format starting with a standard greeting and ending with a sign-off. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different functions, such as describing the problem, explaining its impact, and proposing solutions. Cohesive devices are generally used effectively, though there are minor mechanical elements and occasional capitalization issues (e.g., lowercase 'i' in the second paragraph). Nevertheless, the overall arrangement is coherent and easy to follow, allowing the reader to understand the progression of ideas without difficulty.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating the intended message. Phrases such as 'ongoing problem,' 'completely understand,' and 'professional life' show a sufficient grasp of common vocabulary. However, there are some noticeable word choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'music sound' instead of 'music' or 'noise from music,' 'lower voice' instead of 'lower volume,' and 'noisily activity' instead of 'noisy activity.' Despite these occasional inaccuracies, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the message clearly without impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional-like or concessive clause 'I completely understand some noise are unavoidable in apartment but I would appreciate if...' However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text. Examples include missing articles ('an ongoing problem,' 'an apartment'), missing plural markers ('some noise are' instead of 'noise is'), subject-verb agreement issues ('it effect my professional life' instead of 'affects'), and missing capitalization ('i'). Despite these recurring errors, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the letter.
