Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the prompt by describing the situation, explaining why it is a problem, and suggesting a solution, which aligns with addressing the requirements of the task. However, the development of these ideas remains limited. For instance, the description of the situation is brief, noting only that work in the apartment causes noise. The explanation of the problem touches upon your mother's health and your daughter's exams, but these points are under-developed rather than fully extended. Similarly, the proposed solution to move the work to a commercial area is somewhat simplistic. To move higher, the letter would need to expand upon these points with more specific detail while maintaining a consistent and appropriate tone throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter displays some general organisation through paragraphing, separating the greeting, problem, explanation, and solution into distinct blocks. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by abrupt transitions, such as jumping straight from family health issues into the suggested solution. Cohesive devices are sometimes repetitive or basic, as seen with repeated phrases like 'from your apartment' and 'the noise'. Paragraphing is attempted, but referencing between sentences could be managed more smoothly to guide the reader effortlessly through the text. To achieve a higher level, the response needs more varied cohesive links and a tighter, more cohesive structure connecting the supporting details to the main points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message of the complaint. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling that occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'creat' instead of 'create', 'cocentration' instead of 'concentration', and 'Your faithfully' instead of 'Yours faithfully'. Expressions like 'bear the noise thats come' and 'do your work which you are doing at home must do at some commercial area' demonstrate a restricted range of lexical items and awkward phrasing. To progress, you should incorporate a wider variety of precise vocabulary, use correct word forms consistently, and eliminate spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing relies heavily on a limited range of simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense and verb form issues like 'noise which came' instead of 'noise coming', article omissions such as 'in residential area', and subject-verb agreement slips like 'These situations wants'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with missing apostrophes in contractions like 'its' and 'thats'. While the meaning can generally be deciphered, these frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, you need to demonstrate better control over complex sentence patterns, ensure accurate verb forms, and pay closer attention to articles and singular-plural agreement.
