Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by describing the situation regarding the late-night noise, explaining why it is a problem due to early work schedules and missed meetings, and suggesting a practical solution to turn off the music or lower the volume after 10 PM. The tone is appropriately semi-formal for a letter to a neighbour. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed, particularly the specific impact on daily routines, which prevents the response from achieving a higher band. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains 147 words, falling slightly short of the 150-word minimum.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose established from the beginning. Information and ideas are generally organised logically, moving smoothly from the description of the problem to its personal impact and finally to the proposed solution. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate the opening, the body of the letter, and the closing. However, referencing and cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty, such as the repetitive use of 'because of this' within the same paragraph, which prevents the cohesion from being entirely seamless.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating the core message about noise disturbance. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary items and functional phrases, such as 'express my concern' and 'prompt response'. However, there are noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors that affect precision, including 'downstairs of your apartment' instead of 'directly below your apartment', 'music music' repetition, 'low down the voloum', and 'eagrly wait'. While these inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, they reflect a limited and developing lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and temporal clauses. There are control issues and some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as prepositional misuse in 'regarding to express', missing articles in 'wake late in morning' and 'missed important meeting', and capitalisation oversights like starting sentences with lower-case letters ('we face', 'yesterday i'). Despite these errors, the sentence structures are generally clear and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the writer's intent easily.
