Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by describing the situation regarding the noise from the upstairs neighbour, explaining why it is a problem due to sleep disruption and work stress, and suggesting a solution. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, particularly the proposed solution, which is vague ('take a neccesary action'). Additionally, it is important to note that the response falls short of the minimum length requirement, containing 149 words instead of the required 150 words. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to fully expand on all bullet points with more specific details and ensure the word count requirement is met.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation in the letter with appropriate greetings and sign-offs, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. The body paragraphs lack smooth transitions, leading to a somewhat repetitive structure, particularly in the third paragraph where the points about sleep and work-life balance are restated multiple times. Cohesive devices are used inadequately or inaccurately, such as the misuse of 'Therefore, after working for two many hour's in office, However it creates a lot of stress to us.' Paragraphing is also inconsistent, with very short, fragmented paragraphs that hinder the flow of the letter.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on basic, repetitive terms and makes noticeable errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. For example, 'neccesary' is misspelled, and phrases like 'noise getting from you're apartment' and 'two many hour's' demonstrate weak lexical control and misuse of apostrophes. There are also inappropriate collocations, such as 'take a neccesary action'. To improve, the writer should build a wider range of vocabulary and pay closer attention to spelling and standard collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors. Attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty, as seen in 'I was hearing noise from you're apartment everyday night which is abnormal and bothering us on our daily life cycle.' There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'noise getting from you're apartment' and 'creating us a problem'. Punctuation is also problematic, including misused commas and fragments. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader and keep the grammar score at this level.
