Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Adam,

I am writing this letter to inform you about the noise coming from your apartment. Because of that noise me and my family are facing a problems.

I would like to tell you that on last Sunday, I was sleeping around 10 pm and suddenly I heard very loud music. I was very tired on that day and I woked up suddenly and my family also distrubed by that noise coming from your apartment.

It is a problem for me because next day in the morning I have to reach to the work on time, if my sleep disturbed so I feel tired whole day. Therefore, I am not able to focus on my work and feel some headache.

I would like you to not make the same mistake in the future. I suggest that on weekdays after 9pm and on weekends after 10pm do not play a loud music. Also, we all are leaving in small apartment building so we have to coperate with each others.

Thank you for your consideration.

Kind ragards,

Jency.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, earning a solid score in this area. You clearly described the situation regarding the loud music on Sunday night, explained why it is a problem for you due to work and tiredness the next day, and suggested a practical solution with specific quiet hours. The position is clear throughout the letter. To move up to the next band level, the ideas could be extended with even more depth and detail, perhaps by explaining what kind of music it was or how it impacted your mood more specifically, ensuring every single point is fully explored without any slight generalisations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter maintains a clear overall progression and logical organisation throughout, moving appropriately from the introduction of the problem to your personal difficulties, the proposed solution, and a polite sign-off. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate your points into logical blocks. To reach a higher level of cohesion, you could use a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices instead of relying on repetitive transitions like 'Therefore' and 'Also'. Furthermore, ensuring referencing is always precise will help make the flow between sentences entirely natural and unobtrusive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your message to the reader. You attempt some less common phrases, but there are noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as writing 'problems' instead of 'problem', 'distrubed' instead of 'disturbed', 'leaving' instead of 'living', 'coperate' instead of 'cooperate', and 'ragards' instead of 'regards'. These errors show a limited control of word forms and spelling. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider range of less common lexical items with greater precision and eliminate spelling mistakes that detract from the overall quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar and punctuation. However, there are frequent errors in sentence structure and prepositions, such as 'Because of that noise me and my family are facing a problems', 'on last Sunday', 'woked up', 'reach to the work', and 'if my sleep disturbed so I feel tired'. These errors in verb forms, articles, and clause structures indicate that you are still mastering basic and intermediate grammar rules. To improve, you should focus on producing more error-free sentences, particularly when attempting complex structures, and pay closer attention to verb tenses and prepositions.
