Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Shaila,
I am writing this letter to bring yout attention towards constant noise from your apartment which concerns me significantly.
I am leena staying on ground floor. I would want to bring this to your notice that continous noise from your speakers is really bothering my studies and affecting my sleep pattern.
As you know I'm preparing for my final semseter, continuous speaker noise not only reduces my focus and concentration but also affects my overall ability to understand the core concepts. Similarly, these continous noise at night not only affects my sleep but several other neighbourood apartment have same concerns.
Therefore, I would request you to disconnect the speaker attached to your television especially at night and probably watch the television without speaker. This will not only reduce the noise levels but also enable me to study with less distraction. I hope you understand the situation and do the needful
Yours faithfully,
Sweety.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by describing the situation regarding the noise from the upstairs apartment, explaining how it negatively impacts your studies and sleep, and suggesting a practical solution to disconnect the television speaker. A clear tone and purpose are maintained throughout the letter. The ideas presented are generally relevant and extended well, though there is a slight tendency to overgeneralize when mentioning that several other neighborhood apartments have the same concerns. To achieve a higher band, you could ensure that every supporting point is thoroughly elaborated with specific details while avoiding any repetitive phrasing across paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear beginning and ending, such as the standard salutation and sign-off. Information and ideas are logically sequenced, moving naturally from the description of the problem to its impact and finally to a proposed solution. You make use of cohesive devices like 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, the progression between sentences occasionally feels a bit mechanical, and referencing is not always completely clear. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the main points, but refining the transitional phrases between sentences will help you bridge the gap into more advanced organizational skills.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your message with words like 'significantly', 'concentration', and 'distraction'. You also attempt some less common vocabulary items, such as 'sleep pattern' and 'core concepts'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'yout' instead of 'your', 'continous' instead of 'continuous', 'semseter' instead of 'semester', and 'neighbourood' instead of 'neighbourhood'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they highlight the need for greater precision in spelling and word form to reach a higher level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and subordinate structures like 'As you know I'm preparing for my final semseter'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('staying on ground floor' should be 'staying on the ground floor'), incorrect capitalization ('leena'), and punctuation omissions around introductory elements. Fortunately, these grammatical errors rarely impede communication. To move up to a higher band, you should aim for a greater variety of error-free complex sentences and tighten your control over articles and punctuation.
