Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Simran,
I am writing this letter regarding the late night loud music noise hearing from your apartment that causing severe distress while sleeping.
It has been more than a week that I am facing this noise issue and want to notify you, to stop playing it after 11 PM. Initially, I was little bit confused and could not determine from which apartment it is coming but yesterday your next door apartment raises serious concern in housing meet-up.
Actually, I have late hours meeting with my USA client and early morning rush to office hours due to which I hardly get enough time to sleep and yours loud music playing system hinder me to sleep quickly that causes fatigue and sleepless night that's impacting my work also.
It would be great if you lower the volume after 10 PM or Closes door and windows of your apartment before playing it that certainly reduces the sound to reach my house.
I hope you will look into this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Rahul

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the letter prompt. You clearly described the situation regarding the late-night music, explained why it is a problem for you due to your late client meetings and morning office rush, and suggested a practical solution of lowering the volume or closing doors and windows. The purpose of the letter is evident and maintained throughout. However, some ideas show a slight tendency towards under-development and lack full extension, which places this response right on the borderline of fully satisfying higher-level task achievement demands. To reach the next level, you could expand slightly more on the impact of the noise or provide a more fully fleshed-out context for your neighbor, ensuring all parts are thoroughly explored without unnecessary repetition.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose established from the opening salutation to the sign-off. You use basic paragraphing and some cohesive devices to connect your ideas, such as 'Initially', 'Actually', and 'It would be great if'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, as seen in the transition between sentences in the second paragraph where the logical flow stumbles slightly. To improve cohesion further and move into higher bands, you should aim for smoother transitions between paragraphs and ensure that referencing pronouns and connectors tie your sentences together more naturally and seamlessly without relying on repetitive transitional structures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary range is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message about the noise disturbance and its consequences. You make valid attempts at less common vocabulary items, such as 'severe distress', 'fatigue', and 'sleepless night'. However, there are noticeable word-choice, collocation, and word-form errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'music noise hearing' instead of 'hearing loud music', 'yours loud music playing system' instead of 'your loud stereo system', and 'closes door and windows' instead of 'closing the doors and windows'. These errors do not impede communication, but to achieve a higher band, you need to demonstrate greater precision in word choice, better control of collocations, and fewer slips in word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and multi-clause sentences (e.g., 'It would be great if you lower the volume...'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation present throughout the text, such as tense and agreement issues in 'that causing severe distress', 'that I am facing this noise issue', and 'raises serious concern'. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To reach a higher band, you need to produce a greater frequency of error-free sentences, exercise stricter control over verb forms and relative clauses, and polish your punctuation and grammatical agreements.
