Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify the central issue—noise from the neighbour’s apartment—and begin to explain that your late-night work schedule makes it difficult to cope with. However, the letter is only a minimal response to the task: it does not describe what kind of noise occurs or when, and it does not clearly explain its effects on you. Most importantly, no solution is suggested, so one of the three required points is missing. The response also falls well short of the required 150 words, leaving too little space to develop the situation and your request. To improve, cover each bullet explicitly, for example by describing the noise, explaining how it affects your rest, and politely asking for quieter behaviour at particular times.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The opening makes the purpose of the letter apparent, and the ideas about the apartment and your work schedule are at least related to the noise complaint. However, the response is very brief and does not develop a clear progression from describing the problem to explaining its impact and proposing a solution. The final phrase, “so i always my comfort,” is incomplete, which makes the connection between your work hours and the problem difficult to follow. There is also no closing or clear request to guide the reader. Organise the letter into short paragraphs for the situation, its effect, and your proposed solution, and use complete linking sentences to show how these points connect.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use a few relevant words and phrases, including “noise,” “apartment,” “job timing,” and “late night,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is narrow, and several choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “this latter” and “very disturb noise.” These errors make parts of the message difficult to understand and limit the precision expected for a neighbourly complaint. Try using more specific language for the disturbance and its effects, such as “loud footsteps,” “late-night noise,” or “interrupts my sleep.” Also choose conventional letter vocabulary, for example “letter” rather than “latter,” and “disturbed by” rather than “disturb noise.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to communicate using simple clauses and a reason clause, as in “My job posting here thats why I recently purchase the apartment.” However, sentence structures are limited, and errors in verb forms, sentence construction, and punctuation frequently make the meaning unclear. For example, “I am very disturb noise from your apartment” lacks a grammatical structure for expressing the complaint, while “so i always my comfort” is incomplete. The sentence beginning “My job posting here” also does not clearly connect its ideas. Practise complete sentence patterns such as “I am disturbed by the noise because…” and “As I work late, I need…” Check verb forms and capitalisation, and ensure every sentence has a clear subject and verb.
