Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sandra,
The purpose of this letter is to inform you that, there is always some noise disturbing me which is from your apartmentment especially late night, that is directly effecting my sleeping schedule.
I would like to express my concern that the apartment building is small and conjusted there is already a lot of disturbance in the premises. The management is already working to sought these things out. However, the TV noise from your unit is bothering me at night. I work early in the morning and had to wake up 4 AM. The sound from the TV hinders my sleep and this could effect my health.
As management is already trying to insulate the building, could you please try to keep the volume of the TV low at night and try to maintain the scilence in the premises especially after the dawn, which eventually will be cherry on the cake.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Thank You,
Rishabh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you describe late-night TV noise, explain that you work early and need to wake at 4 a.m., and ask Sandra to lower the volume. The effect on your sleep and possible health impact make the complaint relevant and clear. The request is polite, which suits a neighbour letter. Some details are less fully developed: the opening says there is “always some noise,” but the specific timing, frequency, and nature of the disturbance could be explained more precisely. The proposed solution is also quite narrow; you could suggest agreed quiet hours or ask Sandra to use headphones. These additions would make the ideas more fully supported and the requested action clearer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it opens with the complaint, explains its impact, then makes a request and closes politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish the situation from the explanation and solution, and connectors such as “However” and “As” show relationships between ideas. Some linking is less clear or mechanical. For example, “As management is already trying to insulate the building” does not clearly lead to the request to reduce the TV volume, and “which eventually will be cherry on the cake” makes the final point difficult to follow. The opening sentence also packs several ideas together. Use shorter sentences and make each transition directly express the relationship between the management’s work and your request.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and its impact, including “disturbing,” “sleeping schedule,” “hinders my sleep,” and “insulate the building.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “express my concern.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “apartmentment,” “conjusted,” “sought” for “sort,” “scilence,” and “effect” where “affect” is needed. Some expressions are unnatural in this context, particularly “maintain the silence in the premises” and “cherry on the cake.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations such as “keep the noise down,” “quiet hours,” and “would be greatly appreciated.” Proofreading would help preserve the meaning of your otherwise relevant vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including “I work early in the morning and had to wake up 4 AM” and the clause beginning “As management is already trying…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. In the opening, “inform you that, there is” has an unnecessary comma and an incorrect clause pattern; “I work early … and had to wake” shifts tense, while “wake up 4 AM” needs a preposition. The long opening sentence also joins several clauses without clear control. Try separating the complaint into shorter sentences and check tense consistency, articles, and prepositions. More consistently accurate complex sentences would make the letter easier to read and show stronger control.
