Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mr Sharma,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to bring your attention as issue regarding the noise coming from ypur apartment, which has been disturbiing since last few weeks.

Over the last few weeks, I have been noticed loud music, heavy footstepas and furniture being moved late in the evening. Although I understand that some noise is unavoidable when living in an apartment building, it has become quite frequent, particularly after 10 pm.

The main problem is that I work as a full-time and need t gety enough sleep to feel refreshed the following day. Unfortunately, because of the noise I couldn't enough sleep. which affects my concentration and productivity at work. Moreover, my little daughter often awake and fears during sleeping at late night.

I would really appreciate it if you could keep the noise to a minimum, especially during the late evening and early morning. If possible, you could also use rugs to reduce the sound of footsteps and avoid moving furniture at night. I believe these small changes would make a significant difference.

Thank you for understanding and cooperation. I hope you take propt action regarding this matter.

Yours faithfully,

Darshit

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three requirements clearly: you describe recurring late-evening noise, explain its effects on your sleep, work and daughter, and propose practical steps such as keeping noise down and using rugs. The purpose and polite but firm position are clear throughout, and the details make the complaint relevant and persuasive. The suggestions are particularly useful because they respond to the specific sources of noise you identify. To strengthen the response further, develop the request with a clearer, mutually workable arrangement—for example, asking whether loud activities could stop after a particular time—and make the closing request more measured. Overall, the task is handled fully, with ideas supported by relevant personal details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The organisation is clear and logical: the opening states the reason for writing, the next paragraphs describe the noise and its effects, and the final paragraph offers solutions before closing politely. Linking expressions such as “Although,” “Moreover,” and “If possible” help show relationships between ideas, while paragraphing makes the letter easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth where sentence boundaries are unclear, particularly “which affects my concentration and productivity at work” after the preceding sentence. The closing also moves abruptly from thanks to “I hope you take propt action.” Use complete sentences and connect the final request more tactfully to the proposed solutions. The overall progression is effective, though a few transitions and references need more careful control.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the situation, including “unavoidable,” “concentration,” “productivity,” and “reduce the sound of footsteps.” These choices help explain the problem and offer specific solutions. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes interrupt the reader: “ypur,” “disturbiing,” “footstepas,” and “propt” appear in the letter. There are also unnatural phrases such as “bring your attention as issue” and “keep the noise to a minimum” is more natural than some of the surrounding wording. Aim to check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for formal requests. The range is sufficient to communicate the complaint, but more accurate and natural phrasing is needed for greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter attempts both simple and more complex structures, including the concession “Although I understand that some noise is unavoidable…” and the conditional request “I would really appreciate it if you could…”. These forms suit a polite complaint. However, errors in verb forms, sentence construction, and agreement are frequent enough to affect fluency. For example, “I have been noticed” should be “I have noticed,” and “I work as a full-time” is missing a suitable noun or has an incorrect construction. “I couldn't enough sleep” needs a verb phrase such as “I couldn't get enough sleep,” while “my little daughter often awake and fears” needs corrected verb forms. Review sentence boundaries and build accuracy in basic clauses before adding complexity.
