You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear _________,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Zoe,

I am Manpreet, your next door neighbour and am writing this letter to express my concern regarding noise which comes from your room at every night.I have been noticed this music sound for almost ten days which cause discomfort in sleep.

I am student at university as well as a full time employee and my hectic schedule starts from 5:00 am to ends at 11:00 pm and after that i quite need for sleep. However, around past ten days, i hardly sleep less than 4 hours because of constant noise. Due to lack of sleep, i am unable to focus at my workplace and lectures too.

To resolve this problem, some alternatives can be used if you willing to do. Firstly, you can organize parties on weekends and play music till 11:30 pm.Also, if possible you can use silicone perimeter seals for your bottom door.

I expect you to consider my problem and try not to exceed this matter again.

Thanks and Regards

Manpreet kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you describe music at night, explain its effect on your sleep and concentration, and propose changes. The details about your early start and difficulty focusing at work and lectures make the impact clear. Your suggestions—limiting music to weekends and using door seals—are relevant, although the first could be more considerate and precise about acceptable hours, and the door-seal suggestion may not directly address noise coming from the neighbour’s room. The request to avoid repeating the problem is clear, but the closing phrase “try not to exceed this matter again” obscures your intended meaning. The response covers the task well overall; clearer, more fully explained solutions and a more natural final request would strengthen it further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure: you introduce the concern, explain its consequences, suggest solutions, and close with a request. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and connectors such as “However,” “Firstly,” and “Also” make relationships between ideas visible. Some links are mechanical or unclear, though. “To resolve this problem, some alternatives can be used if you willing to do” is an awkward transition, while “this matter” in the final paragraph does not clearly refer to the noise. The opening also runs several ideas together, making the situation less easy to follow. Use more direct transitions and clear references—for example, refer explicitly to “the late-night music” in your closing request—to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main concern and its effects, including “constant noise,” “lack of sleep,” “hectic schedule,” and “focus.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “silicone perimeter seals,” though this phrase is not expressed naturally in context. Several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate: “at every night,” “music sound,” “discomfort in sleep,” and “exceed this matter” make parts of the letter awkward or unclear. The range is therefore adequate for the topic but not consistently controlled. Aim to learn common combinations as complete phrases, such as “noise every night,” “disturb my sleep,” and “let this happen again,” and choose wording that sounds appropriate in a polite neighbourly letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a sentence explaining how poor sleep affects your work and studies. However, grammatical errors occur across the letter and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “I have been noticed” instead of a correct present-perfect construction, “I am student,” “if you willing,” and “my hectic schedule starts from 5:00 am to ends at 11:00 pm.” There are also problems with sentence boundaries and punctuation, such as the missing space after “night.” and “pm.”, and the lowercase “i.” These errors show that complex structures are not yet consistently controlled. Practise accurate article use, verb forms, and parallel constructions, and proofread each sentence for punctuation and capitalisation.
