Student answer (Band 6.0)
DearTina,
This is Tom, living on a 2nd floor in the same building. I met you last week on rob's birthday party. I would like to write a complain about disturbance created by your tenants.
Firstly, I noticed from last week that there was too much noise coming from upstairs. I saw they were drunk with bear or whisky ,they shouted while dancing on music which creates disturbance to me and my family.
Moreover, my children have exam going on.It really bothers us.In addition, I have hectic schedule I cannot take a proper nap because of them.
I would like to suggest you to request them once or give them a warning to leave the place.I believe, it does not suitable to our community. I would greatly appreciate, if you can take a quick action.
I look forward to hearning from you.
Yours sincerely,
Tom

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you describe noise from upstairs, explain its effect on your children’s exams and your need for rest, and ask Tina to speak to the occupants or warn them. These details make the complaint relevant and understandable. However, the solution is not fully developed: asking for a warning or for them to “leave the place” may sound abrupt, and you could first suggest quiet hours or a direct conversation. The phrase “your tenants” also makes the situation slightly unclear because the task identifies Tina as your neighbour. The response is 145 words, so it does not meet the required minimum of 150; add a little detail about when the noise occurs and the practical change you are requesting.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce yourself and the reason for writing, describe the disturbance, explain its effects, and then propose action. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “In addition” make the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, the connectors are somewhat mechanical, and the two effects on your family could be grouped more smoothly. The opening also moves quickly from identifying yourself to making the complaint. Use a more natural transition, and connect the requested solution directly to the specific noise problem.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main situation, including “disturbance,” “hectic schedule,” “proper nap,” and “take a quick action.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as describing people “shouted while dancing.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “write a complain” should be “make a complaint,” “bear” should be “beer,” and “hearning” should be “hearing.” “Noise coming from upstairs” is clear but could be expressed more precisely as “loud music and shouting from your apartment.” Aim to learn common complaint-letter phrases as complete units and check spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “I would like to suggest you to request them once or give them a warning,” and you communicate the main message despite some grammatical errors. The sentence about the children’s exams and your schedule also shows an effort to add connected information. However, errors in articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries remain: “living on a 2nd floor” needs an article and a more suitable preposition, while “which creates disturbance” does not agree clearly with the preceding plural actions. “It really bothers us.In addition” also needs a space and clearer punctuation. Practise checking each sentence for a complete structure, correct agreement, and appropriate articles.
