Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Neighbour,
I hope you are doing well. I hope you settle down here. I am writing this letter to address some issue. I would like to mention that during night time a lot of noise coming from your apartment. This is not the first time that I am experiencing this, but I frequently bothered by noise coming from your upstairs apartment.
I usually have early morning shifts so I will prefer to sleep early but because of noise its difficult for me to sleep at night. It is completely disturbing my routine and increasing my stress level. I am aware about that you shifted here recently and it takes sometime to settle here.
I request you to work or move your funiture and all during the morning hours. So that it won't bothered others. I hope you won't mind and consider my suggestions.
Thank you for your understanding.
Your Sincerly,
Usha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you describe repeated nighttime noise, explain that early shifts make it difficult to sleep and affect your routine, and ask your neighbour to move furniture or do noisy activities in the morning. The request is understandable and appropriately softened with “I hope you won’t mind.” The opening also acknowledges that the neighbour has recently moved in, which helps keep the tone considerate. To make the response more fully developed, describe the noise more specifically—for example, whether it is loud music, footsteps, or furniture being moved—and make the proposed solution clearer and more practical. The suggestion to “work or move” furniture is somewhat unclear, so specify the noisy activities and ask for them to be kept to daytime hours.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens politely, explains the noise and its effect, then makes a request and closes courteously. Paragraphing supports this progression, and links such as “but” and “because of” help show the relationship between the noise and your difficulty sleeping. Some connections are repetitive or mechanical, however: “I hope” appears twice near the beginning, and the first paragraph repeats that you are bothered by noise. The sentence beginning “So that” is also separated from the request it depends on, interrupting the flow. Combine it with the preceding sentence and use a clearer sequence of details to make the letter read more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main issue and its impact, using relevant expressions such as “early morning shifts,” “disturbing my routine,” and “stress level.” However, the range is limited, and several noticeable word-choice, spelling, or collocation problems make parts less natural. For example, “during night time” and “work or move your funiture and all” are imprecise, while “settle down here” does not clearly express the intended idea of adjusting to a new home. Aim for more precise phrases for the type of noise and the requested change, and check spelling and natural word combinations. This would make the message clearer and more polished.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including “because of noise …” and “I am aware … and it takes …,” so there is an attempt to connect ideas rather than relying only on short statements. However, errors in verb forms, sentence construction, and articles occur often enough to affect fluency. For example, “a lot of noise coming” needs a finite verb, “I frequently bothered” needs an auxiliary, and “it won’t bothered” has an incorrect verb form. The sentence “So that it won’t…” is also incomplete when separated from the request. Practise complete clauses and accurate verb patterns, such as “I am frequently bothered” and “so it won’t disturb other residents.”
