Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Allen,
I feel highly motivated to let you know about a present complain, that has been irritating me for a long period of time reagarding the noises that usually comes from your appartment in the morning. Those noices area consisting of different type of weight that has been dropped on the floor and the loud music you and your flatmates usually play while doing exercises.
We might have not been on the same page regarding the daily routine as i work at night as a security supervisor in the supermarket in the main city downtown area. I usually come back to home early in the morning at 7 o'clock. At this time i usually desperatelty willing to sleep as I come after a long duty of continous 12 hours while standing or walking most of the time.
I totally understand that doing exercise in the morning is a healthy activity and appreciate your efforts towards your health concern, but, taking in cosideration of your neighbours' peace is also a sign of good citizen.
I would not keep beating about bushed and will come straight to the point that please do some necessary arrangments in your appartment for example: install insolation on the floor and walls of your appartment and change the windows with double glaze glass so that sound of music would be restricted in your home. If it is expensive than you can just install insolation on only ground floor and use earphones instead of playing music on large speakers.
Moreover, you can arrange the whole execrise setup in the appartment community park downstairs as number of other residents are use to exercise in the morning which i see on daily basis while coming from work.
For this I shall be really thankful to you.
Your downstair neighbour,
Fahad Maqbool Ahmed Sheikh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you describe morning noise from dropped weights and loud music, explain that you return from a 12-hour night shift and need to sleep, and offer several possible solutions. Your request remains polite, and the detail about the community park makes the suggestion relevant. The ideas are extended with reasons, such as acknowledging that exercise is healthy before asking for consideration of neighbours. To make the response more effective, prioritise one or two practical solutions rather than presenting costly insulation and window changes alongside several alternatives. A more direct, clearly stated request would also strengthen the letter’s purpose.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression: the noise is introduced, its effect on your routine is explained, and solutions follow. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, while phrases such as “At this time” and “Moreover” guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in linking ideas. However, several transitions feel mechanical or awkward, and the long solutions paragraph combines multiple proposals without a clear order of priority. The opening sentence is also difficult to follow, which weakens the initial progression. Use shorter, focused paragraphs and connect each suggestion directly to the problem it addresses.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of vocabulary suited to a neighbourly complaint, including “daily routine,” “security supervisor,” “double glaze glass,” and “community park.” The reader can generally understand the situation, but noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision and sometimes make phrases difficult to interpret. Examples include “present complain,” “noices area,” “insolation,” and “beating about bushed.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “health concern” and “large speakers.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than more elaborate wording, and proofread spelling carefully. This would make your vocabulary more reliable and help your suggestions sound clear and appropriately polite.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and longer sentences with subordinate clauses, for example when explaining your work schedule and acknowledging your neighbour’s exercise. This shows an attempt at varied sentence structures. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur often enough to affect clarity. For instance, “the noises that usually comes” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “I usually desperatelty willing to sleep” is missing a verb form. The sentence beginning “If it is expensive than” also needs a clearer grammatical structure. Practise building accurate sentences first, especially with clauses joined by “while,” “as,” and “so that,” and check punctuation in longer sentences.
