Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mr. Nabeel,

Hope you are doing well, I am wrinting this to address the disturbing noise frequently bothering me and my family from your apartment. Is there any repair work under progress in your apartment?

Its quite distrubing for all of us specfically in evening and later at night when we are sleeping. As we all are early risers due to work and school and due to nise kids as well as we wake up and could not go back to sleep immediatly, Hence it leads to restlessness for whole day and effect daily routine.

I would like to suggest if you can perform all the repair work in morning while we are not at home I and my wife will be out for work and kids are at school. In this way we will not be disturbed and you can complete your repairs.

I appriciate your understaing in the matter.

Your Neighbour,

Noman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you describe recurring noise, explain its effect on your family’s sleep and daily routine, and propose that repairs take place in the morning. The details about early starts for work and school make the problem understandable, and the polite request suits a neighbour letter. However, the situation is framed as a question about repair work, so it is not fully clear whether repairs are definitely causing the noise or whether other noise is involved. The proposed solution also assumes the neighbour is doing repairs and does not invite discussion if mornings are unsuitable. Clarifying the source and making the request more flexible would make the response more complete and developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens by raising the issue, explains its impact, offers a solution, and closes politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “As” and “In this way” show how the ideas relate. Some connections are less smooth, however. The opening combines a greeting, the purpose, and a question in one long sentence, while the explanation beginning “As we all are early risers” runs several ideas together. “Hence” and “and” do not clearly signal the relationships between all those points. Use shorter sentences and clearer transitions to guide the reader through the cause, effect, and request.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “disturbing noise,” “restlessness,” “daily routine,” and “repair work,” and the tone is generally courteous. However, spelling and word-form errors are noticeable, including “wrinting,” “distrubing,” “specfically,” “nise,” “immediatly,” “effect,” “appriciate,” and “understaing.” Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural: “noise frequently bothering me” and “perform all the repair work” could be phrased more naturally. These issues make the language less clear and controlled, even though the main meaning remains understandable. Proofreading spelling and choosing more natural collocations would strengthen your vocabulary use.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, such as the conditional request “if you can perform all the repair work in morning” and the explanation of how noise affects the family. However, complex sentences are often not controlled successfully. The opening has a comma splice (“Hope you are doing well, I am…”), and the long sentence beginning “As we all are early risers” joins clauses without clear punctuation. There are also errors in sentence structure and verb forms, for example “could not go back to sleep” and “it leads to restlessness … and effect daily routine.” Use full stops to separate complete ideas, and check subject–verb agreement and consistent verb forms. This will make your meaning easier to follow.
