You live in a small apartment building. You are frequently bothered by noise from your upstairs neighbour's apartment.

• suggest a solution.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear _________,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mrs. Mehta,

I hope you are doing well as I do not heard much about you.I am writing this letter to you complain about the continuous noise comes from your house.

Your husband plays music very loudly in the morning and practices his musical training in your balcony. You also talked very loudly with your neighbours in the evening. Moreover, your dog barks at everyone who tries to pass by your apartment.

I have university exam in upcoming days. I get distracted by loud music and can not concentrate on my studies. You also talked very loudly with your neighbours because of that reason I have to go to library for my coaching classes.

I would like to suggest some solutions regarding this issue. Firstly, you should advise your husvand to play music at lower level and practices his training in your room. Secondly, you should take your dog to dog-care center for training, where your dog can learn about new activities and train not to bark at everyone in society.

I hope You would like my suggestions and this issue does not cause any rift between our relationship.

Waiting for a positive response from your side.

Best regards,

Hani kathiriya.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you describe the music, conversations and barking, explain that these disturb your exam preparation, and propose changes. The purpose is clear and the tone is generally considerate, especially in “I hope this issue does not cause any rift.” The explanation of the impact is relevant, but the connection between the noise and having to attend “coaching classes” at the library is not fully clear. The proposed dog-care solution is also quite specific without explaining whether training or simply reducing barking is the main request. To strengthen the letter, state the practical effect of each disturbance more precisely and make the requests realistic and clearly linked to the problem.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: opening and complaint, description of the noise, its effect on you, and suggested solutions. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “Firstly,” and “Secondly” make the suggestions easy to identify. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “You also talked very loudly… because of that reason I have to go to library” joins the cause and consequence awkwardly, and the reference to “that reason” is not precise. The closing also moves quickly from suggestions to a request for a response. Use a few more natural links and make cause-and-effect relationships explicit to create smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and its effects, including “continuous noise,” “distracted,” “concentrate,” and “rift.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “musical training” and “dog-care center.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “noise comes from your house,” “plays music very loudly,” and “train not to bark.” Spelling errors such as “husvand” also reduce accuracy. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they limit precision and naturalness. Build a bank of common phrases for polite complaints and requests, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including the sentence beginning “Moreover” and the conditional idea in “I hope… this issue does not cause any rift.” The main message remains understandable, but grammatical errors occur across the letter. Examples include “I do not heard” instead of a correctly formed present perfect, “noise comes” where a relative clause is needed, and “I have university exam” without an article. Verb forms are also inconsistent in “you should advise your husband to play… and practices,” while punctuation and spacing are unreliable in “you.I am.” Practise accurate verb patterns, articles and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence for agreement and punctuation.
