Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear neighbours,
I am writing to you about noise disturbance.
Firstly, I live in small apartment building in Jehlum. I am living there since 2025. You make noise while I am studying. It is so critical situation for me. When Children are playing then create a noise. I disturb because of noise.
Secondly, it is very serious problem for me because while I sit to complete their assignment and also ready their lecture. Then noise come from windows to my apartment building.on other hand when my children have sleep then you make a noise and my children also awake up. He cry loudly.I feel uncomfortable.
Finally, I suggest you when you are playing or doing any other activity. You should do this in your rooms. Close the windows and doors because noise cannot reach my apartment. So I feel fresh and comfortable. I also focus on my studies and full concentrate.
Your faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you describe noise from children playing, explain that it interrupts your studying and wakes your children, and suggest closing windows and doors. These details make the complaint relevant and understandable. The explanation of the impact is strongest where you mention your children waking and crying; the study-related impact is less clearly expressed, particularly in “complete their assignment” and “ready their lecture.” The proposed solution is present, but asking the neighbour to keep noise down at particular times or to move noisy activities away from shared walls would make it more practical and specific. A clearer, more consistently polite request would also strengthen the letter’s purpose and tone.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a recognisable progression from describing the disturbance, to explaining its effects, and then suggesting a solution. “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Finally” help signal these stages, and the reader can follow the main message. However, these transitions feel mechanical, and some ideas within paragraphs are joined in ways that make their relationships unclear. For example, “Then noise come from windows to my apartment building.on other hand” combines several points without clear punctuation or a smooth link. Paragraphing the situation, its effects, and the request separately, and using more natural links such as “This is especially difficult because…” would make the organisation easier to follow. References such as “you” and “my children” are generally understandable.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main problem, including “noise disturbance,” “windows and doors,” “studying,” and “uncomfortable.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations sound unnatural, which sometimes makes the message less clear. For instance, “It is so critical situation” does not express the seriousness naturally, while “I disturb because of noise” is unclear about who is disturbed. “Ready their lecture” and “full concentrate” also do not fit the intended meaning. Aim to learn common collocations for complaints and their effects, such as “the noise is disrupting my studies” and “I am finding it difficult to concentrate.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and longer clauses, including “because while I sit to complete their assignment…” and “when my children have sleep…,” so there is some variety. However, errors in articles, verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction are noticeable and occasionally make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “I live in small apartment building” needs an article, and “When Children are playing then create a noise” lacks a clear subject for “create.” In “my children have sleep,” the verb pattern is incorrect; “my children are asleep” would be clearer. Punctuation also needs attention, as in “building.on other hand” and “He cry loudly.I feel uncomfortable.” Practise building accurate clauses before combining them.
