Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sushan,
I hope you are doing well. I would like to request you redarding the television sould which is so high in the late evening which borthered me alot as I have to wake up early to go to work but I am unable to sleep properly.
The time you start to see the television around 11 pm is my time to sleep but due to the sound disturbance I whole sleep cycle get disturbed which give me the headache and restless body during the day and I am unable to focus on my work.
This problem bothered me the most as I did not get chance to take rest during the day due to my hectic schedule. Therefore, I sleep around 10pm to give proper rest to my body.
I would like to request you to slow down the sound of your device. So that people like me can rest properly and could be able to focus on their work and achieve their goals.
I hope you will understand my situation and try to take the preventive action.
Yours sincerely,
ABC

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points: it describes loud television noise late at night, explains that it disrupts your sleep and affects your work, and asks the neighbour to lower the volume. The reason for writing is clear and remains consistent, while details such as the 11 pm viewing time and your early start make the complaint specific. The request is polite and appropriate for a neighbour. To make the response more fully developed, explain the proposed solution more precisely—for example, ask whether the television could be turned down after a particular time or headphones could be used. The final reference to taking “preventive action” is also less specific than the rest of the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The message follows a sensible order: it introduces the noise, describes its effects, and then makes a request. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Therefore” and “I hope” make the progression easy to follow overall. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “This problem bothered me the most” repeats the earlier complaint without adding a clear new point, and “So that people like me can rest properly” is separated from the sentence before it, making the request less smoothly connected. Use fewer repeated references to the problem and link the solution directly to its reason. Clearer transitions between the effects and the request would make the letter flow more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the situation and its effects, including “sound disturbance,” “sleep cycle,” “restless,” “hectic schedule,” and “preventive action.” These choices show an attempt to go beyond very basic wording. However, several spelling errors and unnatural word combinations reduce precision, such as “redarding,” “television sould,” and “borthered me alot.” Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise: “slow down the sound of your device” would be more naturally expressed as lowering the television volume, while “restless body” does not clearly convey how you feel. Check spelling carefully and favour common, accurate collocations over ambitious but unclear phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at longer sentences, particularly when explaining how the noise affects your sleep and work. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors make parts of the message difficult to follow. For example, “I whole sleep cycle get disturbed” needs a clear subject and verb form, such as “my whole sleep cycle is disrupted,” and “which give me the headache” has an agreement error and an awkward article. The opening sentence also joins several ideas without clear sentence boundaries. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and clause structure, and use full stops to separate the request from its explanation. More reliable control of these patterns would make your varied sentences clearer.
