Dear _________,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Alan,

I am reaching out to enquiry about a matter that has been quite bothersome for most of the neighbours in the compelx and me specifically, since my appartment is directly beneath yours. I have noticed a frequent noise coming from your appartment especially in the evenings and nights during most of the week and it consists mainly of loud voices of people talking and laughing as well as loud sound of fast steps, I should also mention that this noise becomes really unbearable during the weekends with the loud music omitting from your place. Now you know that all the complex residents are mostly either calm peaceful families or either individuals that are working to afford a living. And as of my case as well as any other's in the residence, I do work up until the late evening and have to wake up early in the morning which only leaves a small room for resting and recovering, and it's becoming quite the challenge hoenstly with these loud frequent noises.

I Do hope you take my message by consideration and I am not sure if you got any feedback from any of the other neighbours or not, but just to avoid a mass disturbance, I do propose that if you can tell your guests to lower down the noise and also inform the neighbors in prior in case you're having a party at your place in the weekend so that we anticipate that behavior.

Yours Faithfully,

Seif

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you describe evening and weekend noise, explain that it disrupts your limited rest between work and early mornings, and propose quieter guests plus advance notice of parties. The purpose is clear and the details are relevant. The explanation of the impact is particularly persuasive, while the proposed solution is less fully developed: asking guests to lower the noise could be made more specific, for example by requesting quiet hours or reduced music after a certain time. The reference to other residents is somewhat general, and the letter could make the request more directly and diplomatically. Overall, the task is covered well, with some ideas needing clearer development and precision.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a sensible overall order: it introduces the noise, explains its effect on your routine, and then offers a solution. This makes the main message understandable. However, most of the content is placed in two very long paragraphs, and the first sentence carries several ideas at once. This weakens the progression and makes the reader work harder to follow the details. Some linking is also awkward or repetitive, such as “And as of my case as well as any other's,” while “Now you know” does not connect the point about residents smoothly. Use separate paragraphs for the situation, its impact, and your request, and choose simpler, clearer transitions to make the organisation more effective.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related language, including “frequent noise,” “loud voices,” “resting and recovering,” and “mass disturbance,” so the reader can understand the complaint. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “I am reaching out” and “I do hope.” However, several inaccurate word choices, collocations, and spelling errors reduce precision: “enquiry” should be “inquire” in this construction, “omitting” does not mean music coming from a home, and “compelx,” “appartment,” and “hoenstly” are misspelled. Some phrases, including “lower down the noise” and “in prior,” are unnatural. Aim for accurate, natural expressions such as “keep the noise down” and “give neighbours advance notice.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including longer sentences with clauses explaining the noise and its effect, and the overall meaning remains clear. However, some sentences are overloaded and contain grammatical problems that reduce control. For example, “Now you know that all the complex residents are mostly either calm peaceful families or either individuals” has an unclear either/or construction and missing punctuation between adjectives. “I do work up until the late evening and have to wake up early” is understandable, but the surrounding sentence joins several ideas without clear boundaries. Capitalisation is inconsistent in “I Do hope,” and the final request would be clearer with a direct structure such as “Could you ask your guests to keep the noise down?” Use shorter sentences and check clause boundaries, parallel structures, and punctuation.
