Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Manel,
I hope you are doing well. I'm reaching out to you about some noises that have been bothering me since the past week.
As you know I live next door, and I have noticied during the last week, and at 9 pm exactly, a very loud music coming out from your appartement. Since we live in the same building, we have rules to folow, and it mentioned in our contract with the owner that loud parties are not autorised specaily during week days.
In fact, I have been suffering in this horrible situation. I have a very intense job that required a lot of attention and due to of the lack of sleep I can no longer focus correctly. I come home each day at 8 pm and I usauly fell in deep sleep by 10 pm, since I have to wake up early the next day. But now your music is keeping me awake untile 4 am, so I don't have enough sleep anymore.
I think this situation is not bothering me olny but also our whole neighbour, so please can you stop throwing those parties each night?
Kind regards,
Lamia

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three required points: it describes loud music at around 9 pm, explains that it disrupts your sleep and concentration at work, and asks your neighbour to stop holding parties. The details about returning home at 8 pm and needing to wake early make the impact personal and relevant. The request is clear, but the proposed solution is limited to asking them to stop the parties; a more constructive, specific suggestion—such as lowering the volume after a certain time or agreeing on quiet hours—would make this part more fully developed. The claim that the whole neighbourhood is affected is not supported with an example, so it feels more general than the rest of the letter. The polite opening and closing suit the purpose.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a sensible progression: you introduce the noise, explain its effect on your routine, and then make a request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “In fact” and “But now” guide the reader through the explanation. The sequence of times also makes the problem easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth, however: “As you know I live next door” is not clearly linked to the observation about the music, and the final sentence moves from your personal experience to a claim about the whole neighbourhood without supporting that shift. A clearer transition and a more specific closing proposal would make the cohesion more flexible and less abrupt.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the situation and its effects, including “loud music,” “lack of sleep,” “focus,” and “parties.” Some phrases also convey the seriousness of the problem, such as “keeping me awake.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes distract the reader: “noticied,” “appartement,” “folow,” “autorised,” “specaily,” and “olny.” There are also awkward combinations such as “a very loud music” and “suffering in this horrible situation.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for noise complaints, such as “music coming from your apartment” and “the noise is affecting my sleep.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple statements and longer sentences with reasons and time clauses, for example, “I come home each day at 8 pm … since I have to wake up early the next day.” This shows some range, and the main message remains understandable. However, several grammatical patterns need more control. In “I have noticied during the last week, and at 9 pm exactly, a very loud music coming out,” the sentence structure is incomplete and the time phrases are awkwardly placed. “A very intense job that required” shifts tense, while “due to of the lack of sleep” combines incompatible forms. The request “please can you stop” also needs more natural question structure. Practise forming complete sentences and checking tense, articles, and prepositions.
