Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mr. Sharma

I hope you are doing well!

This is to inform you that I am frequently bothering by a noise which is comming from your appartment. We both are living in this appartment from last 7 years and I hope we both are rights to relax here.

I was working last night and I heard a sound which was like someone is doing some nails work with a help of hammer, my kids got scared and asked me about the sound.

This is sevear problem for me because I live with my family which includes my older parents and kids and these type of sounds totally disturb my family and even I am unable to concentrate on my work.

I want to share a solution if you are doing some urgent work, kindly do that during day time or on weekends. As, this is illegal if you do any work at late night.

Please take serious attention towards my notion.

Yours sincerely

Tarun

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three required points: you describe repeated noise from the upstairs apartment, explain its effect on your children, older parents and concentration at work, and request that noisy work be done during the day or at weekends. The specific example of hammering while you were working helps make the situation clear. The request is understandable, but the solution could be more fully developed—for example, asking the neighbour to give you advance notice or to avoid particular quiet hours. The statement that late-night work is illegal is presented as a fact without context and may sound confrontational; a polite request based on the disturbance would be more effective. The purpose and tone are generally clear, with some ideas needing further support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information follows a sensible overall order: you introduce the problem, give an example, explain its impact, and then suggest a solution. This makes the letter easy to follow. Paragraphing would make the stages clearer, particularly by separating the description and impact from the request. Some links between ideas are mechanical or unclear: “This is severe problem for me because” connects the impact, but “As, this is illegal” does not smoothly explain the request. The opening also moves quickly from the neighbourly context to the complaint. Use clearer transitions and refer consistently to the noise and its effects so that the progression feels more natural and less abrupt.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and its consequences, including “frequently,” “concentrate,” and “urgent work.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors make the letter less natural and occasionally require the reader to interpret your meaning: “comming,” “appartment,” and “sevear” are misspelled, while “doing some nails work” is an unclear description of the noise. Phrases such as “take serious attention towards my notion” are not idiomatic for a neighbourly request. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and a consistent polite register. More precise wording for the sound and a conventional closing request would improve clarity and show greater control of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at longer sentences, such as the sentence explaining that the noise disturbs your family and affects your work. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors reduce accuracy. For example, “I am frequently bothering by a noise” needs a passive form (“bothered”), and “We both are living … from last 7 years” has problems with tense and time expression. In “a sound which was like someone is doing,” the verb forms do not agree in time. Articles and sentence punctuation also need attention, as in “This is severe problem.” Practise accurate present-perfect forms and break longer sentences into clear clauses.
