Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The opening identifies the central issue and gives relevant examples: “footsteps, furniture movement and loud music.” You also begin to explain why it affects you by saying that you work and study from home. However, the letter is incomplete: the impact on you is cut off at “Almost everyday I get dist…”, and no solution is suggested. As a result, the reader cannot understand the full extent of the problem or what action you are requesting. The response also falls well short of the required minimum of 150 words, leaving too little space to address the three bullet points. Develop each point, especially the consequences and a polite, practical request.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The letter has a recognisable opening and moves from introducing the complaint to giving examples of the noise, then starts to explain its effect on your routine. The greeting and “I am writing to bring to your attention” also establish the purpose. However, the response ends abruptly in the middle of a sentence, so there is no complete progression through the problem, its impact, and a proposed solution. The ideas are not yet organised into developed paragraphs, and the reader is left without a closing. Complete the explanation, use a separate paragraph for the effect and request, and finish with a courteous sign-off. This would make the letter easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use relevant vocabulary to identify the disturbance, including “footsteps,” “furniture movement,” and “loud music,” and “bring to your attention” is an appropriate formal phrase. The range is limited by the short response, however, and some choices are inaccurate or unnatural. “Noices” is a spelling error; the correct form is “noises.” “From your house” is less precise in this context than “from your apartment,” while “frequent noises” could be expressed more naturally as “recurring noise.” The unfinished phrase “get dist…” prevents the reader from seeing what vocabulary you intended to use. Expand the letter and choose precise expressions for the disruption and its effects.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response includes a correctly formed simple sentence, “I hope you are doing well,” and a longer sentence that clearly introduces the complaint and lists examples. The sentence “I do work and study from home” is understandable, though the emphatic “do” is unnecessary here. The main limitation is that the writing stops at “Almost everyday I get dist…”, leaving a sentence incomplete and making it impossible to assess how you would develop the explanation. The response also shows little variety in sentence structures. Complete your ideas in full sentences, then combine simple statements with some well-controlled complex forms, such as explaining that the noise interrupts your work because you study at home.
