Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: describing the clock, explaining its importance, and requesting action. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. The explanation of why the clock is important is repetitive, and the request for action is unclear due to awkward phrasing like 'rejuvenate this valuable thing' and 'overcome my expressions'. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the tone is occasionally inconsistent, and the lack of clarity in the final request hinders the overall effectiveness of the communication. To improve, ensure that your requests are specific and expressed in natural, standard English.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. However, the flow between sentences is often mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes misused, such as the abrupt transition in 'And I was wondering that no one was at home'. Paragraphing is also insufficient; the entire body of the letter is presented as a single block, which makes it harder to follow. To improve, use clear paragraph breaks to separate the description, the explanation, and the request, and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and natural collocation. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'rejuvenate' to describe fixing a clock, 'expressions' instead of 'feelings' or 'emotions', and 'glowing back up' or 'reserve', which are unclear. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To reach a higher band, focus on learning common collocations—for example, 'repair' or 'get fixed' instead of 'rejuvenate'—and ensure that your word choices accurately reflect the intended meaning in a formal or semi-formal context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'writing this in order to inform that last night you were at my apartment' (missing subject/object), 'it got broke' (incorrect passive voice), and 'that can make this to reserve' (incorrect verb usage). While the meaning is generally understandable, these errors are persistent and distract from the message. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the correct use of passive voice and verb tenses, and proofread carefully to avoid missing words or incorrect verb forms.
