Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Rohan,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter regarding complaint about my broken laptop. When I come from Dubai I discovered my laptop screen is not working properly. Moreover, I also restarted my dell laptop several times. However, the issue is still remained similar. I still remember my laptop was working fine before my journey because i did all flight security check ins throughout my laptop.
Additionally, this laptop is too important for me due to my studies. I usually done my whole the assignments by using this laptop without this it is hard for me to do my homework. In contrast, i am requesting to you either make a arrangement in order to repair my laptop screen or replace it with new one.
I believe this issue will be resolved as soon as possible and i look forward to your prompt response.
Best regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the broken laptop, explaining its importance, and requesting a resolution. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a friend, although it leans slightly formal. The ideas are relevant, though the explanation of why the laptop is important could be more detailed to fully develop the response. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the request for repair or replacement is explicitly stated. Overall, the task requirements are met effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', 'Additionally', and 'In contrast' are used to link ideas. However, the use of 'In contrast' is slightly unnatural in this context, as it does not logically contrast with the previous sentence. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, and the letter follows a standard structure for a personal request.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'make a arrangement' (should be 'make an arrangement') and 'do all flight security check ins' (which is a bit vague). While the range is sufficient to communicate the situation, there is limited use of less common or more precise vocabulary. Spelling is generally accurate, though the lack of capitalization for 'dell' and 'i' is a recurring issue.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'When I come from Dubai' (tense error: should be 'came'), 'the issue is still remained' (passive voice error: should be 'remains'), and 'I usually done' (tense error: should be 'do'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the capitalization of the pronoun 'I'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the core message of the letter.
