Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0

The response fails to address the core requirements of the prompt. You were asked to write to a friend about a broken possession, explain its importance, and suggest a solution. However, the letter is entirely off-topic, focusing on personal updates, career news, and social plans instead of the broken item. Furthermore, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement. Because the task instructions were ignored and the length is insufficient, the response cannot be awarded a passing score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The letter lacks a logical structure appropriate for the task. While there are attempts at paragraphing, the ideas do not flow logically because the content is irrelevant to the prompt. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences, and the transition between the greeting and the body is abrupt. The overall organization is disjointed, making it difficult to follow a clear progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive, relying on simple, everyday language. There are frequent spelling errors such as 'latter' instead of 'letter', 'freind' instead of 'friend', and 'coffie' instead of 'coffee'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas or demonstrate any flexibility, which is expected for a higher band score. The tone is also inconsistent with the requirements of a formal or semi-formal letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammar is weak, with frequent errors that impede clarity. Examples include 'it is been so long since we last meet' (should be 'it has been' and 'last met'), 'Ireally' (missing space), and 'Iwish' (missing space). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and spacing. These persistent errors demonstrate a limited control over basic grammatical structures.
